I can't believe Thanksgiving has come and gone already. I hope you had a great one. Early Thanksgiving morning, I met up with Leslie and we rode the DART (dallas's version of a subway) downtown for the Turkey Trot!! Turkey Trot is a fundraiser race in downtown Dallas that raises money for the YMCA. I have always wanted to participate and this year I actually got myself out of bed to do it! And we jogged the whole 3 miles - except for a very very brief minute of powerwalking - in about 35 minutes ( : Not bad for someone who has not stuck to her workout schedule at all. There were SO many people at the race. I heard it was about 25,000. Les and I started out somewhere in the back half and everytime we thought we had weaved our way toward the front, there would be a whole new stretch of people. People go all out for this race - they bring their dogs and thier kids and they wear turkey hats. I definitely have to get one of those next year.
After the trot, I had 20 min. to get ready for Thanksgiving lunch with Brian's family. Somehow I pulled it off and we headed to his grandma's. His entire fam on his dad's side was there and it was a little awkward for me....starting wtih his aunt thinking we were engaged! As soon as she saw me, she said congratulations and asked if we had set a date!!! It was sooooooo awkward telling her that we were not actually engaged. Awkward moment #2: His family does a scripture reading before the feast and one of the things his uncle gave thanks for was me and brian and all the babies we would have soon! WHAT!?!? Awkward moment #3: I don't know how you do things in your family, but in mine, we all go through a serving line to fix our plates. At his grandma's, the plate comes to you already fixed. Before they brought them out, I said I wouldn't mind having ham and turkey. But the plate I ended up with didn't have ham or mashed potatos, which was no big deal because I REALLY didn't care (I was just hungry after running 3 miles), I just wanted to be agreeable and sort of disappear after awkward moment #1 and #2. But Brian insisted that I get what I wanted so they brought me a whole other plate! Now I'm the only one with TWO full plates of food. I didn't know what to do but I felt super awkward at this point because I'm sure they all thought I was being picky or something, when really I didn't care. Things got better after that, but still...
Then I had Thanksgiving dinner with my family. It was yummy and pretty uneventful - unless you count Brian having 5 glasses of wine, but he'll get mad at me for mentioning that ( :
Post Thanksgiving has been full of shopping and studying. The malls were busy but I think that makes it more fun. Today I've been getting friendly with my property book since 7:30 this morning. I can't wait for exams to be over because studying makes me super tired and stressed. Plus I'm going to New York as soon as they're finished!!
Jeers: to a caffeine headache
Cheers: to Starbucks's Christmas blend coffee (my study beverage)
