I have an intense fear of burning myself with hot liquid. This presents a problem when you drink as much coffee and tea as I do. Everytime they hand me my cup of steaming hot liquid, I feel like they just handed me a bomb or an incredibly expensive Faberge egg. I carry it gingerly to the "fixing station" and ever so carefully pry off the lid. This is a scary time - if you don't do it right, hot liquid will gush from your cup. Or even worse, you can spill the whole thing on yourself. I've done both and it's not fun. Then, once my drink is perfect, I cautiously carry it back to my seat. This is especially tricky in a crowded place. The worst is trying to manuever around backpacks in the narrow aisles in our lecture rooms. I'm always terrified of spilling it down someone's back or on their laptop. You would think once I got to my seat, the whole thing would be over. But it's just beginning, my friends. Once I sit down, I go into battle with my cup. I bring it to my lips, tilt ever so slightly, and put it back down without drinking anything. This goes on for about 30 minutes until I decide to take the plunge and risk burning my tongue. I hate burning my tongue. I've gotten good at taking the tiniest sip with the smallest risk of burning. I can give you pointers sometime.
Right now, I'm waiting for my mug of hot lava (aka Earl Grey tea) to cool off and for the caffeine to kick in so that I can kick some civil procedure butt.
Best wishes with your hot liquid endeavors.
Jeers: to burning myself...duh
Cheers: to Christmas flavors of my hot beverages - they make for the best burns
