the one where it wasn't that bad

I did it!! I made it through a stressful weekend and I finished my first legal memo!!! I just finished the writing, all that's left is to do a little editing (but not till after Desperate Housewives!). And the weekend wasn't that bad. I actually had fun at the conference. I met some cool people and got some stuff done. My coworker and I had a good discussion about our favorite Friends episodes. We both agree that the game episodes and thanksgiving episodes are fun. I also got to eat a fancy dinner at one of my professor's homes. It was HUGE and had a spectacular view of the James River. We had wine and beef tenderloin and yummy chocolate pie. I still can't get over the fact that I'm not at Baylor and it's okay to drink with your professors. Strange. I also made some new friends while I worked the registration table. One girl and I traded phone numbers and became facebook friends (and THAT means we're friends forever). She promised to invite me to her next wine and cheese party. Look at me being social! Things are looking up in the friend department.

Another interesting thing happened this week. For the first time, I was absolutely fascinated by something in class. It shocked me. And here's the other shocker, it was my property class and we were talking about wills. Two months ago I thought that sounded totally boring. But we were reading cases about how some old ladies didn't like their grandchildren and didn't want them to get their money. For the first time I could see how something that I was learning would really apply to real people. I could help people if I knew how to write wills the right way. Pretty crazy.

I also met a woman this weekend who is a journalist with a law degree! She writes for an online magazine about legal type things. She gets to mostly work from home and she still has a real life. Totally cool. I could see myself doing that. It would be the perfect way to combine a lot of things I love: writing, law school, home, family.

All in all, not a bad week. There were definitely some low points and a few breakdowns, but it was much better than expected.

Cheers: to Panera Bread, free coffee refills and free wi-fi
Jeers: to Latte wanting to play at 7 a.m.

PS- my famly is all fine after Rita. I hope yours is too. Good luck to my friends heading back home soon!
