the one where life is busy - part two

So last Thursday I hopped on a train to our nation's capital! Brian flew to DC and we arrived at about the same time. It was so COLD and I brought the wrong shoes - only flipflops and a pair of wedges. We walked around the National Mall, saw the national archives, saw some monuments. We went to DuPont Circle for dinner and a drink. On Friday, we got some coffee and then went to the National Gallery of Art. After that we saw the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum. We headed to Georgetown for some shopping. By that point, my feet were dying. I bought a pair of pumas and felt like a kid when I asked to wear them out.

Early Saturday morning, we caught a train to NYC! On the way, we watched some episodes of Grey's Anatomy. Brian has seen season one and I'm trying to get him caught up on season two so that he can watch them with me on thursday nights. Anyway, we got to the city and went to Julie and Bobby's apartment. We all went to get lunch at Chipotle, then saw the New York Public Library and the Met. We shopped at the cool Apple store and FAO Shwarz. We wandered around Rockefeller Center and Times Square before finding a yummy little pizza joint.

Sunday, we headed back to the Met with Julie (Brian just can't get enough of those museums). After that, Brian and I got a HUGE icecream sunday at Serendipity. The store was so cool - it had Tiffany lamps hanging over every table and unique mirrors on the walls. We wandered around the city some more and stopped in at the Nintendo Store. It was SO FUN. I got to play some Mario Tennis and the Harry Potter game for Game Cube. I wanted to buy a new game, but I don't need any new distractions at school. Anyway, we ended up grabbing some seafood at South Street Seaport.

Monday morning, Brian and I started off on our trek. Julie and Bobby's apartment is at 121st. We headed downtown and stopped at Ulysses S. Grant's tomb. Then we saw the 91st Street park that is at the end of You've Got Mail...the one where Meg Ryan is waiting to meet her mystery man and Brinkley (the dog) runs around the corner followed by Tom Hanks. The park is beautiful, full of gorgeous flowers. We kept walking to a famous bagel shop at 80th, then on to Strawberry Fields at 72nd. We strolled through Central Park, eventually getting on the subway at 59th. For those keeping track, thats 60 blocks in about 3 hours. We got lunch at the first pizzaria in America, a little place called Lombardi's. After a bit more walking through Little Italy, Greenwich Village, Chelsea and SoHo, we ended up at Magnolia Bakery. It's the bakery in Sex and the City where Miranda can't stop eating cupcakes. The cupcakes were pretty darn good. I might even get addicted if I lived there. For dinner, we met Nathan Blalock and his wife in Little Italy. I love catching up with old friends and hearing about their new adult lives. After some delicious chicken parmesan, Brian treated me to a carriage ride through Central Park for our last night in the city. I think our horse was pretty tired, but the night was perfect for our ride.

Tuesday morning we went to mass (yes, Catholic mass) at 8 a.m. at St. Patrick's Cathedral. Its the huge gorgeous cathedral right next to Rockefeller Center. Experiencing mass there was a very cool experience, even for two Baptist kids. We grabbed breakfast at Dean and Deluca and watched the filming of the Today Show. I could see Kirsten Dunst being interviewed about her new movie! Then we caught our train back to DC, watched some more Grey's Anatomy, had lunch at Union Station before Brian headed to the airport and I caught my train to Richmond. The trip was exactly what I needed - a vacation from law school. I didn't think about school (very much) or do any work. Now it's Wednesday and I have 24 hours to write 3 papers, do about 100 pages of reading and some laundry before heading to TEXAS for HOMECOMING!!!!!!!!
