the one where my paw was a hero



Yesterday, my aunt sent a link to some old photos of my grandfather when he fought in WW2. He was an air-traffic controller stationed in London during all the bombings and he was only 23. I can only hope that some of his courage was passed down in the blood.

He wrote on the back of several of the pictures.

In a picture of him standing next to a channel they dug in England he wrote, "Picture of yours truly apparently looking for a way back to the U.S."

Another picture shows him standing in front of a wooden operations shack. The back reads: "We flew a lot of heavy bombers - B17s and B24s. A lot flew out that didn't return."

I have a whole new respect for him and I wish I had used my time with him more wisely. I know he had a lot of stories to tell that I never got to hear.
