Highlights from the past few weeks (actually, mostly last weekend):
Brian and I went to go see Les Miserables last Sunday night. It was soooo amazing. I love the music and the story. We ate at a fancy mexican food place called Javier's and we got all dressed up. I have to say I was disappointed with the other theatre patrons, most of them wore very casual clothes. I think the theatre should still be one of those places where you are expected to be fancy! Besides that and the woman with rather large hair who sat in front of me, everything was fabulous. I'm just disappointed we forgot to take a picture because we were looking hott.
Last weekend we also went with Brian's roommates to a trendy sushi place called Sushi Zushi. It was near downtown and I swear the hostess didn't think we were cool enough to get a table. After waiting for awhile in the swank bar area, we got a table and our waitor was from Columbia. He kept telling us that the sushi rolls we ordered were "simply beauuutiful". It was a little creepy. We stuffed ourselves with some fabulous fancy rolls (nothing raw). A regular California roll will never satisfy me again after that experience. Afterward, we hung out in uptown and visited a few bars. We ended up sitting outside listening to a live band. The guitar player was a rather large man who sat back in a chair and rested the instrument on his ample belly. Besides the music, we were entertained by a big group of frat guys - all dressed identically in khaki shorts and a pastel polo shirt.
On Saturday, Brian and I met his brother and his brother's gf for a friendly four-hour game of Monopoly at Starbucks. It was the perfect Saturday afternoon - coffee, friends, a fun game, and a thunderstorm. Normally, I'm absolutely terrible at Monopoly. I get frustrated at my inability to pass Go and my failure to land on the good properties. I don't think I've ever played a game where I got enough money to build a hotel. This game started out the same way. I got bad properties, traded them for a monopoly that was too expensive to build on and repeatedly landed myself in jail. Brian, the little brat, played a typical game as well, which for him means earning mega millions and buying the most and best properties. Somehow over the four hours, I managed to redeem myself a bit and I didn't end up bankrupt. Quite an accomplishment.
In other news, I finished my job at the first law firm. It was sad to say goodbye to all the people I had gotten to know. It was definitely one of the best experiences I've had to date. It re-affirmed that I'm doing the right thing with my life and that my law degree will be something I will want to use. I started at the second law firm on Monday. It is much smalled and concentrates only on employment litigation. Totally different than what I was doing at the other office. I can't say that one will be better than the other, both will be valuable in completely different ways. For one thing, I've pushed myself out of my comfort zone and found that I'm completely capable of making interesting conversation with adults. Anyway, I know thats a little sappy, but I'm proud of myself.
A word of advice: Don't go to a baseball game if you don't plan on paying attention. Fly balls can severely injure you. I went to a Ranger's Game two weeks ago and a fly ball smacked one of the other interns in the face. She spent the night in the emergency room, got stitches in her eyebrow, bruises on her cheek and her eye was swollen shut for days. So keep your eye on that ball!!
Jeers: To summer being halfway over
Cheers: To fun things coming up on my calendar (a trip to H-town, tickets to Shakespeare in the Park, The Devil Wears Prada, fireworks, and Berlin!!)
